Here are some tips on the things that should not be said in an interview. “Could you tell me what the company is all about?”: We expect that you would have done your research about the organization you want to work with, know the core values and a brief history of the organization. Great advice from the Richest person in China, Mr. Jack Ma

This man is someone I always want to listen to, I look for every opportunity to learn from him. I saw this post on social media and I just thought to share with BIE readers. Be inspired… Jack Ma says, “Please tell your children that the world is changing every day and no one is going to wait for you in the past. When lighter was invented, matches slowly disappeared. When calculator was created, abacus was to fade away. When digital camera was designed, the market of negative film no longer existed. When direct market selling/internet-based selling arises, traditional marketing declines. When smartphone with 4G (wireless internet access) was introduced to the world, you no longer need to turn on your computer at home. When WeChat and WhatsApp (mobile text/voice/video messaging) are developed, traditional text messaging is no longer as popular as before. Let’s not to blame “Who took over Whose business.” It’s only because people are more adjustable and adaptable to new ideas and changes in the world. Someone asks Jack Ma, “What is your secret for success?” He says, “Really simple…I am doing (action) while you’re only watching.” Please remember that the world keeps changing every day. If ...

The Hilarious Camp Story of Opeyemi Durowaiye

Opeyemi Durowaiye shares her NYSC camp story with us and we hope you all learn from her interesting experience as a corp member especially the 2016 Batch B Stream 1 corp members who will be going to camp very soon. Her Story… First, I must say DO NOT take 30 passports or make 20 photocopies….. Please* DO NOT! *and so I begin. Greetings everyone – especially prospective corps members. I was in your shoes in April, getting ready for camp and all; oh, and to serve my country #important. I was disappointed on two counts though; first I didn’t get posted to the East as I wanted-yeah, you heard right. I wasn’t interested in getting posted to Lagos or its environs and I still got Ogun state but the experience has been good! Then secondly, I had to go in the second stream- and to think I had my bags ready for camp since April 28th! (Don’t judge me!). But camping later afforded me good advice from my friends who went ahead, and a bit of travel. Why this checklist? Before camp, trust me, I checked out blogs and articles about orientation camp and all. They all made sense oh- ...

Don’t Be Limited By Your Environment – Tokunbo Fasoro

I woke up this morning to the news of someone being burnt to death because he stole. It was really upsetting because personally, I do not think someone who stole should be put to that type of horrible death. In addition, some people mentioned that the society had failed him – that was the supposed reason for resorting to theft. It got me thinking. I have never had it really easy in my life. I really struggled to get where I am today. I realized that complaining about the environment wouldn’t get me anywhere, wishing I had opportunities like other people wasn’t going to help my situation, nor would sitting around and waiting for a miracle from heaven going to improve matters for me. I decided that no matter how unpromising the environment looked, nor my lack of a silver spoon at birth, all I needed to do was to look beyond my environment and decide not to be limited by it. I resolved to work hard and buy my ‘golden’ spoon myself. Lol! I have the permission of my friend Seyi to share his story on how he was not limited by his environment… Seyi was born into an ...

Hard Work and Smart Work – Zika Nwaise

Over the weekend, I attended a training and I thought to share with us some of the things I took home from that day. One of the facilitators spoke to us about the ‘value of a wasted minute’. He said,”There are two types of people in this world; There are those who are always extremely busy, yet do not achieve productivity. These type of people are the ones who are always actively doing something at every particular point in time. You can never call them lazy because they can never be caught idle. They take time to do lots of unimportant things and end up not achieving anything, because all they do is ‘almost get work done’. The second type of people are those who do the things that should be done as soon as possible, then spend the rest of their time doing other things. This set of people can never be called lazy either, but might not be actively up and about like the first group, but you know what, these people are always more productive. The difference between these two groups is, they both work hard but the second group works smart. So, I ask you BIE readers, when you wake ...
