Top Five Tips for A Killer Presentation

How do some people give killer presentations while others simply flop? In the majority of cases, it’s preparation. Most people will be at least slightly, if not very, nervous, before a presentation or talk; the trick is to channel the nerves into something positive, rather than seeing it as a fail before you even begin. Here are Alison’s top five tips for giving a killer presentation! Top five tips for giving a killer presentation 1. Get Clarity Sitting down and thinking about what it is you want to get across is the very first thing you need to do. What is the presentation about? What are the main points you need to get across? 2. Create Your Story Think of your presentation as a story – you have a story to tell and you want to tell it in the most effective way possible. So you need to have a beginning, a middle and an end, just like any other story. Make sure that it’s clear, concise, sticks to the point, and doesn’t try to fit in too many points. Think of crafting a story – you want it to flow, to be entertaining, to engage – all the things ...

Money or Passion? Which would make you happy?

The major problem with most people is that they put making money before fulfilling their dreams or their passion. I have a lot of friends who have gotten into banking just because of the money, fast forward to 10 years down the line, they want to get out to pursue their passion. Unfortunately, 10 years have been wasted on being average.  Working for free is definitely a lot of sacrifice, but nothing good comes easy. We make sacrifices to succeed sometimes. I remember the first employee I took into my company was earning five times what I was offering her in her previous employment. Honestly, I must tell, you I didn’t want to take her because I felt she would be dissatisfied. But she made the decision to move because she wanted to build a career in Human Resources (HR). I asked her “How will you cope? Honestly, this is a start up and I definitely cannot do much”. You wouldn’t believe what she said to me! She said “I should be paying you ma for teaching me” At that point, I saw the determination and the willingness to learn in her, and  I took her in just with a little increase to ...

Personal Goal Setting for 2017 (Part 1) – Tokunbo Fasoro

A few days ago, I sat down and began to analyze my life in 2016. I am grateful to God that I set goals and achieved most of them. I also learnt a lot of lessons along the way, some very hard but more importantly, it has helped me re-evaluate my journey to determine if I am headed in the right direction or not. These lessons would also stand as a guide for me in 2017. For some people who may feel that their course has been slightly deterred or even derailed, see the New Year as a fresh start to re-establish your goals and start the process of creating the path you desire. Personal goal setting helps us evaluate what we like about our lives and what we wish to change; then forces us to focus on how we can achieve that change for ourselves. Why Set Goals? 1. It helps us evaluate what we want out of life. 2. It gives us a clearer view of where we are and a step by step guide to achieving them. 3. It helps us focus on specific targets. 4. Well thought out goals helps us organize our time and our ...

Six Tips To Getting Your Dream Job – Tokunbo Fasoro

As impossible as it may seem, especially in a country like Nigeria, if you can follow these tips, you would be amazed at what will happen! Learn about yourself: Understand who you are, your likes, your values and your strengths. Research: Find out about careers which match with your interests and your skill set. The next thing is to identify any additional skill set you need to take you in the direction you want to go, and then take active steps to build that skill or competence. Don’t be discouraged by your lack of experience: Every employer wants someone who is hands-on on the job; an employee they do not have to teach. This makes it difficult for someone who has no experience to get a job, but there is a way out. Volunteer or work for free! Make a sacrifice! Ignore the money (or lack of money) and go get that experience you need on your Curriculum Vitae. Network: Meet people, talk to people and attend free or paid seminars in relation to the field you are interested in. Take advantage of your network on social media and remember that a contact or someone in your network can know ...
