3 Resolute Personalities that inspire me – Oladimeji Oluwaga

Hello guys, it’s another beautiful Tuesday today and we have decided to share with you three Resolute Personalities that have inspired one of our BIE reader, Oladimeji Oluwaga. Read and be inspired… Faith Abiodun After coming across his Public Speaking School in University of Ibadan-The Speech Academy- where I started to nurture my skills in public speaking, I sort out to find the person whose force was strong enough to put together my super tutors in persons of Goodness Kolawole, Adebayo Damilola and Banke and also The F.A.I.T.H Initiative that is filled with brilliant minds inside and outside the walls of the premier University. Toyin Subair: HiTV 101

The HiTV story is one which will be etched in the Nigerian business history books. After a long hiatus, Founder of HiTV Oluwatoyin Subair has opened up and shared his no-holds-barred view on what happened. The article was originally published on his Linkedin Page. *** My great mentor asked me one day, a few years ago, why after the appointment of a Receiver/Manager by GTB over the assets of HiTV I gave up fighting and just rolled into a semi coma. He said this because, he knew how hard we fought to save it. I responded with the story of King David crying to GOD over his sick child but then quickly wiped his face off, ate and started drinking, when the child was pronounced dead. You really just must know when to move on so that you can see and take the future opportunities that will come your way. Thereafter, Solomon, the wisest and richest ruler of Israel was born to David because he looked and lived forward. People who care, ask me what happened to HiTV and others in their supreme wisdom profess their own reasons. I have kept my peace and quietly moved on in life, until ...

NO PAIN, NO GAIN – Tokunbo Fasoro

Last week Monday, I left my house, situated at a certain area in Lagos by 5:27am. I had a training commencing at 8:00am, but I was stuck in traffic. I did not get to my destination in Victoria Island until 9:10am. I spent close to three and a half hours in traffic!! I looked out of my window and I saw people just like me who do this 5 or 6 times a week, I thought to myself, “Will I be doing this again tomorrow?” That was when I realized that for many of them on the street, it was a Yes. They had no choice. There was a reward at the end of it all. You can call it profit or salary, depending on the destination, but the point I am trying to make from this is “No Pain No Gain” My mind also flashed back to my aerobics class and the trainer who will never let us have any rest. He keeps pushing us to keep doing those very strenuous and painful exercises over and over again, telling us “No Pain No Gain” The moral of this is that nothing good comes easy, you need to keep pushing ...

Thinking Out of the Box

Many hundreds of years ago in a small Italian town, a merchant had the misfortune of owing a large sum of money to the moneylender. The moneylender, who was old and ugly, fancied the merchant’s beautiful daughter so he proposed a bargain. He said he would forgo the merchant’s debt if he could marry the daughter. Both the merchant and his daughter were horrified by the proposal. The moneylender told them that he would put a black pebble and a white pebble into an empty bag. The girl would then have to pick one pebble from the bag. If she picked the black pebble, she would become the moneylender’s wife and her father’s debt would be forgiven. If she picked the white pebble she need not marry him and her father’s debt would still be forgiven. But if she refused to pick a pebble, her father would be thrown into jail. They were standing on a pebble strewn path in the merchant’s garden. As they talked, the moneylender bent over to pick up two pebbles. As he picked them up, the sharp-eyed girl noticed that he had picked up two black pebbles and put them into the bag. He then asked the ...

HAVE FUN WHILE AT IT! – Tokunbo Fasoro

One day, our team had to travel to Abuja for a meeting and we booked our ticket to arrive in Abuja for the meeting on time. Unfortunately, when we got to the airport, the flight had been moved. We were very upset about it, infact extremely upset because we were going to arrive late for the meeting. We shouted! We grumbled! We complained! We were so angry. We were practically looking for a face to punch but could not find a scape goat. We did that for a couple of hours until we realized that our shouting, grumbling, complaining and all our rants would not change the fact that we would still have to wait till the rescheduled flight time. At that point, we decided to have fun with it. We went into a restaurant, ordered food and began to chat; catching up on the old days. We were having so much fun; we did not realize that they had called our flight; they had even made the final boarding call. At some point, I decided to just go out and see what was happening. It was at that point, that I realized we were about to miss the flight. We then ...

Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life – Tokunbo Fasoro

I remember fresh after service year, my friends and I were excited looking out for job opportunities. We just couldn’t wait to dress corporately and begin to earn some big money……….. so that we could go shopping. That was all we imagined. We had no career plan or professional path. Any job that could do this for us was good enough! In a couple of weeks, one of us got a marketing job and the pay was good. She could now dress corporately and of course she got a cute red car in addition. Boy, were we jealous! Sometime after she started work, I asked her if she was enjoying her job, and she said to me, “I don’t enjoy the job, but the money is good and the car is cute“. She added that all she wanted was to save up some money and move into the next job. Unfortunately, by the time she wanted to move, all the offers she got were for marketing positions because that was all the work experience she had acquired. She ended up changing jobs about 8 times within 10 years until she finally gave up to focus on learning professional makeup. I ...

THE BEAUTY OF PAIN – Zika Nwaise

I stood outside my house one morning and noticed how beautiful it looked…  Yes, I had viewed the scenery over and over again but never took the time to notice how beautiful it was.  Standing right there in front of me, I saw a beauty I could not comprehend, a beauty that could only be created through pain, the pain that comes with receiving the sun and the rain, the pain that comes with being a TREE. Yes, you read right, a tree! I guess we see the beauty of the flowers and the trees spurring us to appreciate nature, but if we take the time to study them, we would see that the only thing that makes them shine is birthed from the pain they go through. Imagine if they ran for shelter every time it rained, or shielded themselves from the sun when it blazed down on them, would they still look this radiant? To succeed in life, we have to face our own challenges in order to be successful in our various paths.  Human that we are, most times we want to run away from our challenges and we search for the easy way out not knowing ...
