“All you need is someone to believe in you” – The Jimi Tewe Story

Jimi Tewe is a mentor and someone I always look forward to learning from. Thank you Jimi Tewe for letting us share this amazing story on this platform. Be Inspired… I’m a man of many parts. From a professional point of view, I run an organisation called Inspiro Consulting. It’s an HR and career services organisation and has been running for 6 years. Prior to that, I had worked with different organisations in consulting and banking at senior management levels. Today, I do a lot of career coaching, counselling, and public speaking. I also pastor the Lekki arm of my church, Kingsword International Church. I’m an author of 5 published books. The truth is, I wasn’t always like this. I remember some time ago, my mum called me and said there was a friend of hers that wanted to speak with me. So the woman was given the phone. I knew her when I was in Secondary school. This is how the conversation went: Mum’s friend: “Hello, is this Jimi?” Me: “Good afternoon ma. How are you ma?” Mum’s friend: “My children have been telling me about one Jimi Tewe that is going around talking everywhere and I was like ...

Great advice from the Richest person in China, Mr. Jack Ma

This man is someone I always want to listen to, I look for every opportunity to learn from him. I saw this post on social media and I just thought to share with BIE readers. Be inspired… Jack Ma says, “Please tell your children that the world is changing every day and no one is going to wait for you in the past. When lighter was invented, matches slowly disappeared. When calculator was created, abacus was to fade away. When digital camera was designed, the market of negative film no longer existed. When direct market selling/internet-based selling arises, traditional marketing declines. When smartphone with 4G (wireless internet access) was introduced to the world, you no longer need to turn on your computer at home. When WeChat and WhatsApp (mobile text/voice/video messaging) are developed, traditional text messaging is no longer as popular as before. Let’s not to blame “Who took over Whose business.” It’s only because people are more adjustable and adaptable to new ideas and changes in the world. Someone asks Jack Ma, “What is your secret for success?” He says, “Really simple…I am doing (action) while you’re only watching.” Please remember that the world keeps changing every day. If ...

Working Your Way into Career Success – Tokunbo Fasoro

A lot of us make mistakes in our career choices because we do not plan. We assume that our grades can get us to our target careers. I was speaking with a group of students in a University in Lagos about how we have so many second class upper and first class candidates these days. In my own days, a whole department might just produce one second class upper and no first class student at all! Lol! On a serious note, this simply means that there is a lot of competition out there. The question is“What makes you stand out from the crowd?” This question led to my developing the acronym DPA, i would like to share with BIE readers today. Follow these steps and you will have a great chance at career success. Discover Prepare Act Discover: Know yourself –“Who am I? What are my likes? What am I passionate about? Where do I see myself happy in the next 10 years?” A lot of people are miserable and stuck in the wrong careers just because they failed to take time to discover, who they really are. Prepare: Match those abilities, passion and who you are with a particular ...

Don’t Be Limited By Your Environment – Tokunbo Fasoro

I woke up this morning to the news of someone being burnt to death because he stole. It was really upsetting because personally, I do not think someone who stole should be put to that type of horrible death. In addition, some people mentioned that the society had failed him – that was the supposed reason for resorting to theft. It got me thinking. I have never had it really easy in my life. I really struggled to get where I am today. I realized that complaining about the environment wouldn’t get me anywhere, wishing I had opportunities like other people wasn’t going to help my situation, nor would sitting around and waiting for a miracle from heaven going to improve matters for me. I decided that no matter how unpromising the environment looked, nor my lack of a silver spoon at birth, all I needed to do was to look beyond my environment and decide not to be limited by it. I resolved to work hard and buy my ‘golden’ spoon myself. Lol! I have the permission of my friend Seyi to share his story on how he was not limited by his environment… Seyi was born into an ...

Six Tips To Getting Your Dream Job

By Tokunbo Fasoro As impossible as it may seem, especially in a country like Nigeria, if you can follow these tips, you would be amazed at what will happen! Learn about yourself: Understand who you are, your likes, your values and your strengths. Research: Find out about careers which match with your interests and your skill set. The next thing is to identify any additional skill set you need to take you in the direction you want to go, and then take active steps to build that skill or competence. Don’t be discouraged by your lack of experience: Every employer wants someone who is hands-on on the job; an employee they do not have to teach. This makes it difficult for someone who has no experience to get a job, but there is a way out. Volunteer or work for free! Make a sacrifice! Ignore the money (or lack of money) and go get that experience you need on your Curriculum Vitae. Network: Meet people, talk to people and attend free or paid seminars in relation to the field you are interested in. Take advantage of your network on social media and remember that a contact or someone in your ...

NO PAIN, NO GAIN – Tokunbo Fasoro

Last week Monday, I left my house, situated at a certain area in Lagos by 5:27am. I had a training commencing at 8:00am, but I was stuck in traffic. I did not get to my destination in Victoria Island until 9:10am. I spent close to three and a half hours in traffic!! I looked out of my window and I saw people just like me who do this 5 or 6 times a week, I thought to myself, “Will I be doing this again tomorrow?” That was when I realized that for many of them on the street, it was a Yes. They had no choice. There was a reward at the end of it all. You can call it profit or salary, depending on the destination, but the point I am trying to make from this is “No Pain No Gain” My mind also flashed back to my aerobics class and the trainer who will never let us have any rest. He keeps pushing us to keep doing those very strenuous and painful exercises over and over again, telling us “No Pain No Gain” The moral of this is that nothing good comes easy, you need to keep pushing ...

Highlights from Pitman Training – Tokunbo Fasoro

Wednesday was a great day at Pitman Training Lagos with Mrs. Abimbola Soluade and her team. I was invited to come in and share my story with the participants. I spoke on how I struggled through my childhood and the many obstacles I faced trying to get an education. I told them that the only reason I was able to meander those dark moments was through GHARP. Lol!… I am sure you are wondering what ‘GHARP’ means. God Factor- Never ignore the power of prayers, it kept me going. Hardwork- I kept putting my best into everything I did. Association- I surrounded myself with people who supported me and helped me grow. Great mentors. Resilience- I was persistent and determined to succeed so I kept on pushing. Never give up. Positivity- I had to get rid of negative thoughts and negative people around me. Some day, I would share my story on this platform… Watchout!!! The participants were also excited to have Opeyemi Omotosho and Titi Olono, who are my friends and classmates from secondary school share from their wealth of experiences as well. It was a fulfilling experience. Enjoy viewing other pictures from the training… Tokunbo Fasoro Biempowerment.com #EmpoweringPeople ...
