Happy Worker’s Day – How the BI Empowerment Team Celebrated Worker’s Day

We hope it’s not too late to wish you a ‘Happy Worker’s Day’.

It was Worker’s day on the 1st of May and we felt the need to celebrate. The BI Empowerment team were invited to join the Africa Basketball League(ABL)  at their Worker’s Day Basketball games on the 2nd of May, at the Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island. Lagos.  ABL are partners with BI Empowerment and they have generously supported us in the past, by providing free regular tickets for our graduates to attend their games. This time, they offered the entire BI Empowerment team, VIP tickets to celebrate Worker’s day. We will like to use this medium to say a big thank you to ABL .

Two matches were fixed for the day and I arrived the venue at about 6.00pm with Tokunbo Fasoro, Stanley Awelewa of BI Empowerment and Pelagie Egbane, a very good friend of the BI Empowerment team. The first match kicked off, it was against the Stallions and the Warriors and it was a very competitive match.  The highlight of the game was when the Warriors made a basket during the final minute of the game, this sent the match to overtime. After a long battle, amidst sweat, shouts from the audience, anxiety and few injuries, the Stallions emerged as Champions of the game.

There was a short break and the team got the chance to mingle with some of the people at the VIP Section. We spotted celebrities like Sound Sultan, who is one of the organisers of the basketball games, Sasha P, Bizzle Oshikoya, Kemi Adetiba, Dotun and so many others.  We got a chance to speak to Bizzle Osikoya, a renowned Digital Marketing Consultant and Social Media Influencer who has a passion for youth empowerment. We told him all about BI Empowerment and he was excited at what we do for youths. He promised to support us to impact as many Nigerian youths as possible.

The next game between the Lagos Islanders and the Ramblers kicked off at about 7.30pm, it was equally exciting and keenly contested. At half time we watched sterling performances from two upcoming Nigerian artists. The match ended with the Ramblers emerging as winners.

In all, it was a great time out for the team and I look forward to more of such opportunities to unwind and network.

I hope you had an equally amazing Worker’s Day Celebration.

Enjoy the rest of your week.
