Networking And Building Relationships Made Easy

Networking and building relationships

I went out one beautiful Saturday morning for an exhibition. On my way back, I saw some beautiful flowers along the lawn and I picked some. When I got back home, I dropped them in a flower pot, didn’t even bother to put some water in them. The very next day, I repeated the same thing. I continued like that……….on and on, days after days, weeks after weeks, it was becoming a habit, I was loving the idea of collecting flowers but there was a problem. I kept on gathering them without taking care of them. All I wanted to do was pick them up and keep them in the flower pot at home not considering the fact that I had to take care of them by giving them the required amount of water and sunlight they needed. I wasn’t even concerned about the number of flowers I could manage at a time in my small flower pot. One day, they were all dead. Many times, when we go to networking events, we end up collecting a thousand business cards not minding if we can successfully manage the relationship with all these people. We don’t even keep in touch to ...

“The Have-to’s” and “The want-to’s”

Have to

I was chatting with a friend and she was talking to me about how the house would be so dirty sometimes and she wouldn’t just feel like cleaning.  She would instead ‘want to’ sleep or watch TV, but unfortunately, it’s something that she ‘has to’ do. As human beings, most times we don’t want to be stressed, we all just want to sleep, have fun, relax, play, hang out, party etc. These are things we ‘want to do’ and there are so many things we wouldn’t feel like doing, especially when it comes to hard work, setting goals, following through, making sacrifices etc. but unfortunately these are things that we ‘have to do’ to remain relevant and be successful. Relating this to careers, goals or even aspirations in life, we just find out that most times we prefer to remain where we are. Quite a lot of people find it difficult getting out of the status quo. Many times you discover a lot of people are limited because they are not intrinsically motivated, most people want to be motivated or pushed by other people before they can take the next big step in their lives which would take them to ...

Be responsible- Remember someone might be watching

Be responsible

Article By Tokunbo Fasoro FB AND IG: @TOKUNBOFASORO Being responsible is a topic I like to talk about all the time because as unbelievable as it may sound, just being responsible can take you to places that you can never imagine you can get to. Responsibility is a skill, you learn it. Someone said the decision to be lazy or get up early everyday is taken by you. It all boils down to your own conscious decision, choosing your own actions and words. Responsibility reflects in the decisions we take in our everyday lives from when you wake up in the morning to take a bath, going to work, how we work and relate with our colleagues, bosses and subordinates, getting early to work, following your schedules, meeting your timelines, ensuring savings, pursuing career and personal development etc. This list can go on and on. Being able to show responsibility in every little thing produces good results. A colleague of mine was sharing with me on how he found in the dustbin an envelope of money in the US dollar currency and he returned it to his boss. He said to me that his boss was surprised the he found ...

Your Habits Make You Or Break You

Habit

Article By Opeyemi Komolafe HEY……..STOP THAT!! Yes, you……stop it!!!! What is that thing, now a habit that is sabotaging the achievement of your goals? What is that activity that you love so much that is a hindrance to you taking the timely and calculated steps towards the achievement of your life’s purpose. They are not always bad things. They might appear to be harmless little actions or habits that make you do the opposite of pursuing your life’s goal. For me, it is television. I loooooooooove TV!!!!! I always tell myself that it helps me unwind and relax after a long hard day so the hours I spend watching tv are slotted under the section of ‘work/life balance’ or ‘helping Ope relax and prevent her from pulling her hair from the roots.’ Watching tv is not necessarily bad, but its effects on me became glaring after a recent decision by my husband that cable network would not be subscribed to during the school term. You see, my daughter picked some of my habits and always found it difficult to focus on school work as long as a tv is switched on in the house. This drove my husband’s insistence on ...

Sprinting Theory: How to Have Self-Discipline on Steroids

Discipline

There ain’t no such thing as willpower. Explaining away wins and losses by some magical force is only useful if you don’t understand anything about your own psychology. Having concrete theories about why your self-discipline can fail you is far more useful. I’m going to explore one of those ideas for putting your self-discipline on steroids. Using this concept has been incredibly useful in breaking through my own laziness. This simple idea I’m going to refer to as sprinting theory. 100-Meter Dash or Marathon? Running is all about pacing. If you go too fast early in the race, you’ll burn out all your energy far before the finish line. Completing a marathon is quite different than bursting through the 100-meter dash. If you get the pacing wrong you’ll either finish way behind or stop halfway. Pacing a sprint is straightforward because of one thing: you know the length of the race. You know before the starting pistol fires whether you’ll finish a brief lap around the track or several miles. The goal of sprinting theory is to help you set a pace for your discipline. Discipline is a Fuel Recent research suggests that self-discipline is a fuel, not a state ...
