Staying Relevant In An Ever Changing World – Opeyemi Komolafe

We have seen businesses come and go, companies start and fold up, empires rise and fall, in most cases, the reason for their failure is the simple fact that they ran out of clients or couldn’t meet the new demands of their clientele. One constant thing about life is its ever-changing nature. Consequently, people as well as their requirements, desires and ultimately their tastes for items/service will be dynamic. According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, man’s basic needs of food, clothing and shelter have remained unchanged throughout the ages. Nevertheless, the needs of individuals vary across the spectrum of the hierarchy of needs. For example, the need for prestige and self actualization may not be important to most people struggling to meet daily needs of food and shelter, so the onus is on you as an entrepreneur to find out what your target clients choose not to do without. Like my husband often says, “Anywhere I go, the first thing I do is ask myself, what are the needs here? What can I do or how can I meet these needs?” This particular drive is what keeps you relevant. Meeting a ‘need’ is completely different from providing a ‘want’. When the stakes are high, people will shun their wants, but in every situation, every human will strive to have his/her needs ...

A Simple Resolution- Zika Nwaise

It’s that time of the year where everyone starts to write a New Year Resolution, (a to do/ must achieve list) for the coming year – which some may totally forget in the second week of the year, accomplish a very small percentage of the list, totally ignore the list or achieve a better part of that list and feel fulfilled but whichever way it turns out, let’s all have this at the back of our minds: Try to shed some of your weaknesses/shortcomings (because it might be hard to shed all at once) that have made you not to accomplish certain goals this year. You will have to make a conscious effort to do that. Do not end your 2017 with the same and I mean “the SAME” flaws you started 2016 with. Do not be too hard on yourself if you do not accomplish all you wanted to achieve this year, you have got 2017 to make up for it, don’t waste it. Make it a point of duty to learn something new (Good) before the end of the next year (2017) I hope this “Simple as can be” Resolution will help us all. Wishing you all a ...

An Extra Touch – Zika Nwaise

Hello beautiful BIE readers, happy holiday to you all. I know we’re all in the holiday mood and I trust some of us have already started travelling, going for parties, making our Christmas hair and buying new clothes…lol. Please remember my Christmas gift o!…and do not forget to show some love this season, yes! Show some love. You must be wondering what I mean by that since it’s a season of love and everybody already has that notion;so I’m going to break it down – how we can show love this season. I know we have entrepreneurs in the house; it doesn’t hurt to give discounts or freebies this season. I know someone who did that last year and guess what happened? There was an overflow of customers and clients this year. Try it out and you may be shocked at the response you get. For those that offer services either in an organization or own businesses, please try to be extra polite, smile a little bit more, say ‘Compliments of the Season’ to customers and go the extra mile to put a smile on someone’s face – even if it’s just one person a day. *smiles* I know we can! ...

Personal Goal Setting for 2017 (Part 2) – Tokunbo Fasoro

Talking about setting goals, if you missed part 1 of this, click here to view it. Today we will discuss a few tips that can help you set your goals for 2017. Make your goals SMART Specific: What exactly do you want to do? Ensure that it is well defined. Have specific reasons, purpose or benefits of accomplishing the goals. Measurable: This simply means that you identify exactly what you will see, hear and/or feel, when you reach those goals. It means breaking your goals down into measurable elements. Defining the objectives of your goal makes it clearer and easier to read. Attainable: What needs to happen to achieve the goals? Are the goal achievable, considering the circumstances around you such as environment, resources, time etc.? Realistic: There are some goals that are simply not realistic; a goal has to be something that isreasonable and can become a reality in our lives. Time Oriented: Every goal must have a time frame attached to it. It must have an end i.e. a definite time in which it is planned to be accomplished. With no time frame attached to it, there is no sense of urgency. Additional Tips State your goal as ...

“All you need is someone to believe in you” – The Jimi Tewe Story

Jimi Tewe is a mentor and someone I always look forward to learning from. Thank you Jimi Tewe for letting us share this amazing story on this platform. Be Inspired… I’m a man of many parts. From a professional point of view, I run an organisation called Inspiro Consulting. It’s an HR and career services organisation and has been running for 6 years. Prior to that, I had worked with different organisations in consulting and banking at senior management levels. Today, I do a lot of career coaching, counselling, and public speaking. I also pastor the Lekki arm of my church, Kingsword International Church. I’m an author of 5 published books. The truth is, I wasn’t always like this. I remember some time ago, my mum called me and said there was a friend of hers that wanted to speak with me. So the woman was given the phone. I knew her when I was in Secondary school. This is how the conversation went: Mum’s friend: “Hello, is this Jimi?” Me: “Good afternoon ma. How are you ma?” Mum’s friend: “My children have been telling me about one Jimi Tewe that is going around talking everywhere and I was like ...

Great advice from the Richest person in China, Mr. Jack Ma

This man is someone I always want to listen to, I look for every opportunity to learn from him. I saw this post on social media and I just thought to share with BIE readers. Be inspired… Jack Ma says, “Please tell your children that the world is changing every day and no one is going to wait for you in the past. When lighter was invented, matches slowly disappeared. When calculator was created, abacus was to fade away. When digital camera was designed, the market of negative film no longer existed. When direct market selling/internet-based selling arises, traditional marketing declines. When smartphone with 4G (wireless internet access) was introduced to the world, you no longer need to turn on your computer at home. When WeChat and WhatsApp (mobile text/voice/video messaging) are developed, traditional text messaging is no longer as popular as before. Let’s not to blame “Who took over Whose business.” It’s only because people are more adjustable and adaptable to new ideas and changes in the world. Someone asks Jack Ma, “What is your secret for success?” He says, “Really simple…I am doing (action) while you’re only watching.” Please remember that the world keeps changing every day. If ...

Personal Goal Setting for 2017 (Part 1) – Tokunbo Fasoro

A few days ago, I sat down and began to analyze my life in 2016. I am grateful to God that I set goals and achieved most of them. I also learnt a lot of lessons along the way, some very hard but more importantly, it has helped me re-evaluate my journey to determine if I am headed in the right direction or not. These lessons would also stand as a guide for me in 2017. For some people who may feel that their course has been slightly deterred or even derailed, see the New Year as a fresh start to re-establish your goals and start the process of creating the path you desire. Personal goal setting helps us evaluate what we like about our lives and what we wish to change; then forces us to focus on how we can achieve that change for ourselves. Why Set Goals? 1. It helps us evaluate what we want out of life. 2. It gives us a clearer view of where we are and a step by step guide to achieving them. 3. It helps us focus on specific targets. 4. Well thought out goals helps us organize our time and our ...

What I will be sharing in this series is my personal story and experience, and I trust that you will be able to glean a few insights and lessons from it. The first lesson I am going to share in this series is called “FINDING YOUR PASSION AND MOTIVATIONS.” To be candid and honest, if you will pass these examinations at first attempt you must find your passion and motivations for taking them. It is only when you find your passion and motivations, that the necessary strength, energy and tenacity to pursue your dream of earning your certification will come. It is your passion and motivations that will keep you awake studying when you should be sleeping. It is the same passion and motivations that will enable you make the necessary sacrifices in the pursuit of earning your ...
